Winter Illumination at Himeji Castle Japan: A Recreation of the Edo Period Garden

Himeji, Japan – The enchanting winter illumination of Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and national treasure, will light up the iconic castle and the main street of Himeji starting November 22, 2024. This breathtaking event, titled "A Graceful Night Beneath the Castle," aims to recreate the atmosphere of the Edo period, showcasing designs inspired by the vibrant and peaceful fashion of the time, known as "kosode."

Highlights of "Himeji Castle History: Mirror Flower, Water Moon"

This year's concept revolves around "A Graceful Night Beneath the Castle," featuring a spectacular light display that recreates the beautiful Japanese gardens of the former Mukoyashiki and the Sannomaru Oji, along with accompanying music.

Approximately 250,000 LED lights will adorn the area, expanding the scale of this magnificent illumination. The event includes new interactive features and photo spots, transforming the entire city into a luminous space.

Experience the stunning reflection of Himeji Castle in the water mirror reminiscent of the long-lost Mukoyashiki garden, featuring a lighting tower adorned with traditional kimono patterns.

Enjoy a tranquil space beneath gently lit "nodate" umbrellas. Neon art inspired by the historical figures of Princess Sen and Lord Tadatoki, who once resided at Himeji Castle, adds to the ambiance.
