In a remarkable fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and artistic innovation, Murase Kabanko's Akairokozane-Oudoubyou-Hainougusoku has been awarded the prestigious Artistic Design Award at the Japan Leather Award 2024, Japan’s largest contest for leather goods. This one-of-a-kind backpack, inspired by traditional samurai armor, will be available for purchase through the official Murase Kaban online shop starting October 31st.

“This design utilizes offcuts from mass production and parts of a school backpack in an unconventional way. Inspired by traditional armor, I crafted the shape using only parts from the school backpack to create an armor-like appearance. The flap features a design reminiscent of armor, achieved by connecting individual pieces, while the main body is made from different leathers combined to create a unique pattern. At the bottom, I incorporated a 'fierce-looking face' on both sides to enhance the armor-like feel. This backpack not only showcases an armored look through its color and shape but also allows children to feel like warriors while promoting Japanese culture to an international audience.”
