Vincent van Gogh
A leading figure of Post-Impressionism and modern art, Van Gogh painted a series of four floral bouquets, including two of irises and two of roses, in May 1890, shortly before being discharged from the asylum in Saint-Rémy. These are the only still-life works he passionately created during his stay, noted for their contrasting colors and forms. His depiction of irises is said to have been heavily influenced by Japanese ukiyo-e prints.
